    Stipend – for Junior Advocates

    Meaning
    A stipend is a form of salary, such as for an internship or apprenticeship. It is often distinct from a wage or a salary because it does not necessarily represent payment for work performed.

    Stipends are usually lower than what would be expected as a permanent salary for similar work. This is because the stipend is complemented by other benefits such as accreditation, instruction, food, and/or accommodation.

    Stipend – a support for young lawyers
    It is widely accepted that to establish legal practice takes time. When young and fresh law graduates come out of universities in order to establish their legal practice they need 2-3 years legal training under the guidance of some senior lawyers. This training is an essential for young lawyers to make them understand the legal procedure and practical of legal cases and implementation of legal statues.

    Stipend is a kind of support at this time to young lawyers and to help them to survive in the battle of life. Stipend at this time plays an important role for not discouraging the young lawyers at the time beginning of this profession. In other words the immediate duration of 2 – 3 years after graduation is the period of frustration for young lawyers and that may lead to diversion from the legal field or may lead to degradation of this profession, as they may indulge into work which a lawyer ought not to do being a legal profession a respectable and ideal profession. Non-payment of stipend and exploitation of young advocates is continuously being done by advocates and that leads to frustration.
